Tenerife

The canary islands are situated in the Atlantic Ocean a few hundred miles off the west coast of Africa. Tenerife is the largest of the islands and takes approximately 4 hours flying time from the UK. Most airports in the UK fly to Tenerife. The Canary Isles are part of Spain so the language in Tenerife is Spanish although English is widely spoken. The money in Tenerife is Euros. During the past twenty years Tenerife has developed into one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. Tenerife can more or less guarantee the sun all year round.

Just Right °c

Tenerife has one of the best climates in the world, during the winter months the average temperature is 20°c with the odd spot of rain whereas during the summer months the temperature reaches 30°c with a nice breeze off the Atlantic Ocean.

Tenerife besides having very localized weather at times can have three distinct weather zones. The southern part (Playa de las Americas, Los Gigantes): drier and warmer than the northern part: greener, wetter and sometimes cooler (Puerto de la Cruz). Spains highest mountain "El Teide" is the third climate, which of course at higher altitudes can be cooler (winter).

Eating out in Tenerife

There are a wide range of restaurants/snack bars on offer in Tenerife. It is very cheap to eat out in Tenerife whether you are looking for a snack or a full meal the choice is endless. On average the cost for a three course meal will be approx. 18 euros (12 pounds sterling). If you want a snack there are hundreds of snack bars across Tenerife whether you fancy eating in a British or Spanish Bar.

During the past few years quite a few of the big food companies have invested in Tenerife for example: McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken plus many more, so you can still feel at home.

Nights Out

There is plenty of nightlife in Tenerife, whether you are looking for live entertainment or clubs there is plenty to choose from. Tenerife is popular for its live shows, if you like Robbie Williams, Elvis, Cher, Billy Idol plus much more, there are a great number of artists that copy the worlds top stars, a great night out for all ages. The world famous Veronicas has approximately 1,000 clubs which opens daily from 9pm to 7am.

If you are looking for something different you could visit the Medieval Castle which is fun for all ages, or a typical Spanish show, or just simply have a quiet night in a nice relaxed bar, Tenerife has everything to offer.

Fiestas

The fiestas in Tenerife are spectacular, Tenerife has the second largest Carnival in February, or throughout the year most towns have there own fiesta. They usually last for 4 or 5 days finishing with a superb fire work display. The Canarians are very religious so the fiestas are the highlight of the year, dancing in the streets throughout the night. Majority of Canarian ladies dress in traditional dresses which is beautiful.

Places of Interest

Masca

Masca is one of the most beautiful places in Tenerife. The old village was occupied by pirates in past times. The scenery around the village is stunning, a must to see whilst you are here in Tenerife.

Garachico

Garachico was the old capital of Tenerife until in 1706 Teide erupted and totally destroyed the village. Now Garachico has been rebuilt on the old lava formation which is fascinating to see. In the village there are fantastic little shops for all your souveniers.

Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz is situated in the North West of Tenerife. Puerto has grown over the years and is very much a tourist holiday resort. There are some fantastic shops and restaurants in the main town. Puerto de la Cruz is a town waiting to be explored. There are places of interest such as Lagos Martianez, the Botanical Gardens, the square of El Charco, the San Telmo Chapel or the Lido.
